This R9 Fairway Wood is one of the best fairway woods I have ever used. In contrast to some other ratings here, I find this club to be very consistent. It is loooong. Solid feel and a good shaft. I use this to get on some long par 5's in two, and on tight driving holes. I was hitting my previous wood(TM R7) about 230. The R9 is getting 240-245 easy, with the same contact. The only thing I will say negative about it is the price, but hey everything seems to be expensive these days. If you don't want to spend the money then settle for second best.
This TaylorMade R9 Fairway Wood is to replace a ping 3 wood. The novel thing of course about this clubs the ability to alter the club head position. As of yet I have only been able to hit this club on the driving range, I found it to go farther than my previous 3-wood by about 10-15 yds. I have modified my swing since getting this club which has improved my accuracy and distance more than any settings on the club itself.
I normally hit a fade on my shots but this TaylorMade R9 Fairway Wood even at Neutral just flew straight! even a miss hit near the toe flew straight and long… I’ve been relying on my 3 hybrid and have been waiting for a good fairway wood and as luck would have it, I’ve found her!
I am pleased to report the answer to both questions is yes. The 13* launches a little higher and much longer than my TM V-Steel 15*, and set one click to the left I'm hitting it very straight and consistent.
